The essential tool of a Geomancer
Dowsing or divining utilising a pendulum or a rod has been used for centuries to find objects, best sites of land, water, opals and gems, dowsing the human aura and obtaining answers to questions.
Two varieties of rods are available - solid (pure) copper and steel. The copper rods are larger, more sturdy and are generally used for most outdoor work. The copper rods measure 275mm in length whereas the steel rods measure 240mm. The handle dimensions are not included in these measurements.
Kit contains: 2 x copper dowsing rods and instructions.
The steel rods are considerably smaller and thinner and used for indoor work or for dowsing peoples health and/or aura. The rods are elegantly made with rounded ends for comfort of use. Many rods available on the market are made from poor quality metals, giving poor quality responses.
Kit contains: 2 x steel dowsing rods and instructions.
The Rods available through Natures Energies are guaranteed to be of the finest quality.
Kit contains: 2 x copper and 2 x steel dowsing rods, as well as instructions.
The following information has been extracted from the instructions which come with each of the above kits;
Instructions on how to use dowsing rods
In working with the metal rods, it is important to hold them correctly to enable you to pick up marginal changes. One or two rods may be used - for general dowsing, two rods is preferred. Taking the short end of the rod(s), rest it over your first three fingers, sit the pointed end of the rod on your little finger and use the thumb to stabilise the rod at the back. Curl your fingers around the rod and it should now point out with the long end (the right angle to the piece in your hand) pointing away from you. This is the most effective way for holding a dowsing rod of this type. The thumb is actually unnecessary as the rod should balance just on the fingers, however the thumb gives a little stability so you do not drop it as easily. Make sure the thumb is just resting on the rod and not holding it, as any force here could prevent the rod from moving freely. Naturally the copper rods are too large to be held in this way. Gently grasp them in a clenched fist.
Varieties of dowsing rods
The two varieties of rods most commonly used are copper and sprung steel. The copper rods are larger, more sturdy rods and are generally used these days for most outdoors work. The sprung steel rods are considerably smaller and thinner and used for indoor work or for dowsing people health and/or aura.
Holding and working with your metal divining rods
In order to search for anything using a rod, you must clear your mind and then focus very clearly on what ever it is that you are looking for. It helps to say the name of the object over and over as well as visualising it in your mind. For example if you were looking for water, you would get a picture in your head of clear, fresh water and then as you were searching for it, you would say over and over "Water, Water, Water". This helps to prevent other thoughts wandering in and it keeps the mind focused on what you are looking for.
Rod divining involves a great deal of walking, as the rod will only spin when you are over what it is you are searching after guiding you to the site. Hence it can be a tiring method of divining. Still it is one of the most accurate methods of all. Particularly if you own the rod you are using. It is as if you develop a communion with the rod. In working with the rod you are attuning to its energies and it becomes at one with you. This is not a rational nor logical idea to grasp, yet in working with divining, the rational takes largely a back seat to the intuitive mind and/or the unseen.
Once you get a clear picture of what you are looking for walk slowly and gently in the direction the rods are pointing, this is the direction to what you are looking for. Walk slowly and deliberately and allow the rods to move freely. As you walk the rods will move and point to another direction, carefully turn your body and follow in this direction. Your rods are now guiding you to what you are looking for. When the reach the area of the desired object, the rods will cross over each other in front of your body, indicating they have found what you were searching for.
When you first begin, it may be fun to look for easy things i.e., - take me to a particular animal or family member in the house. Other good things to look for are: water (perhaps underground, perhaps your rod will take you to a vase or a tap), the front door, something beautiful, a plant, a flower, the garden gate etc. These may seem silly things to look for, however, as you do, you are strengthening your confidence and getting in more and more practice. It is not a good idea to look for important things first up, such as an important lost document or piece of jewellery for three reasons. One is that it may not even be on the site any longer, secondly, there is too much stress and importance around these objects to allow you to relax. Thirdly, if you place too much importance on these objects, and cannot find them when you are just beginning to practice, you may lose heart and give up altogether. Develop slowly on less important things, as these can always be looked for later. Another good thing to look for may be the best place on your property for you to meditate or to practice your divining. The possibilities are endless.
Dowsing for Questions
You can ask your rods to cross in front of you to provide a "No" answer and open up around you for a "Yes" answer. In this manner you can ask many questions by gently walking with your rods, accessing your subconscious and setting yourself free of ties that may bind you or hold you back from your true potential.
We have many powerful sites in Australia and perhaps your task, dowsing rods and map in hand could be to open your mind to finding these places and developing your own communion with heaven and earth, your own deeper learning and allow the mysteries in your mind and heart to begin to unravel. Ask your rods to lead you to the best place for you to meditate, to gain clarity or to develop understanding. Ask them to take you to a symbolic object that may assist in understanding what is occurring in your life at the moment.
